The nose serves as the centerpiece of the face, providing symmetry, balance, and character to your profile. As such, when bumps or humps are present on the nasal bridge, the entire facial aesthetic can be disrupted. Patients who are unhappy with the shape, size, or position of their nose can often benefit from rhinoplasty, sometimes referred to as a “nose job”; however, traditional rhinoplasty techniques are not always the most beneficial way to reduce an unwanted dorsal bump. For patients who want to correct this particular concern, preservation rhinoplasty is typically considered a better method.
The innovative preservation rhinoplasty technique is very complex, and is only employed by highly qualified plastic surgeons. Its name comes from its ability to address imperfections of the nasal bridge without altering too much of the tissue and cartilage, preserving most of the natural nasal anatomy. Whereas a traditional rhinoplasty involves the removal and contouring of tissue above the bridge, during a preservation rhinoplasty, the surgeon will remove cartilage and bone from underneath the bridge. The result is generally a much more subtle and natural-looking enhancement of the nose and, in turn, the entire facial structure.
While preservation rhinoplasty can be extremely effective, not everyone is eligible for or interested in surgery. In such cases, we may recommend a liquid rhinoplasty. This non-surgical procedure utilizes dermal fillers, most commonly JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, to add volume to various parts of the nose and balance to the facial structure. Please note that while liquid rhinoplasty can be an excellent temporary option for some patients, it cannot provide the same long-lasting cosmetic results as rhinoplasty.
